Crossover Business Labs: Introductory Seminars

As the audio-visual and entertainment industries respond to the changing digital media ecology, companies in different sectors - film and TV production, games development, web design, mobile applications - face new challenges and opportunities. Companies need to develop new skills, capabilities and capacities, adopt new ways of working and explore new commercial models to take advantage of this rapidly-changing environment.

Crossover Labs has been commissioned by the Screen Agencies in the North East, North West and Yorkshire to provide a programme of support for SMEs in the region to help them position themselves for creative and commercial growth in the converging digital economy. This programme has three core objectives:
-   to work with business leaders to share an understanding of the characteristics of the market and the opportunities available;
-   to help companies develop the skills, capabilities and assets required to do business effectively in the converging digital marketplace;
-   to foster collaboration between companies within and across the regions.

The first phase of the Business Lab programme will consist of consultative workshops in towns and cities across the north of England in early January. Each seminar which will feature case studies from commissioners and/or producers who have participated in one of Crossover's Creative Labs, presentations about how companies have developed new business through collaboration, changing their working processes and adapting their output for new clients and markets. This will provide the basis for debate and discussion to inform the second stage of the Lab, a two day residential workshop in February.

Each workshop will take place at 6:00pm in two venues simultaneously, connected using Northern Net's video conferencing infrastructure.

The seminar programme will be on the following dates, each one linking two venues:

11 Jan: Fact, Liverpool and Woodend Creative Space, Scarborough:
Case Studies will include presentations by Marc Goodchild, Head of Interactive, CBBC, and Lizzie Leadbeater of Milky Tea

12 Jan: Electric Works, Sheffield and NE Business and Innovation Centre, Sunderland:
Case studies will include presentations by Tim Morgan, CEO of Mint Digital, and Diarmid Scrimshaw from Warp Films

13 Jan: Tyneside Cinema, Newcastle and UCLAN Media FactoryPreston:

14 Jan: NWV&Media, Manchester and BOHO ONE, Middlesbrough:
